Business Development Director (Remote - West Coast).

  • Build 5 year strategic plan with the CEO and CFO

Lead retail customer acquisition for a highly profitable, private equity-backed beverage business in the Bay area that is rapidly expanding its portfolio and distribution.  

This remote role offers a $150-180K+ base salary plus a 50% cash bonus, long-term incentives, and other great benefits. 

You will be a key member of the executive leadership team and will partner with the CEO and CFO to build the 5-year strategic plan. You will drive customer acquisition and joint business planning for large retail customers while enhancing overall efficiency across the business.

 

 

Position Overview

The Business Development Director will take primary responsibility for new customer acquisition and the initial growth period (12-24 months) of new customers. You will work hand in hand with the CEO and CFO on the design and execution of the strategic 5-year plan. Deploy the commercial strategy for the group and bring greater levels of forward-looking analysis to customer acquisition and development. Oversee new customer distribution and the development of joint business planning. This will entail leading, coordinating, and negotiating agreements with distributors, managing day-to-day processes/internal team coordination, and customer satisfaction.

 

Responsibilities:      

Business Development:

  • Build relationships, network, and identify potential retail customers.
  • Initiate new business introductions and meetings.
  • Present key differentiators, benefits, and opportunities of the Company
  • Manage key customer relationships and orders closely on a day-to-day and long-term basis
  • Handle negotiations and contractual relations with partners and customers at both a high-level view and on an order-by-order basis

 

Joint Business Planning:

  • Work closely with the orders and logistics department to ensure procurement of products in a timely manner, as well as provide accurate visibility into short- and long-term demand to allow for an efficient, coordinated approach
  • Partner with the CEO and other departments to develop, implement and monitor the yearly budgeted versus actual sales
  • Collaborate with other Senior Leadership to prepare for and manage client interactions and after-sales service

 

Strategy:

  • Partner with the CEO, CFO, and board to devise and manage the implementation of a 5 year business plan
  • Lead new business budget and forecasting processes
  • Provide relevant reporting and analysis of new opportunities including analysis of potential customers, market trends, and industry profitability
  • Provide general strategic advice to management in relation to existing businesses and new opportunities

 

Process Improvement:

  • Commitment to innovation and review in ensuring continuous improvement in operational processes.
  • Identification and driving of opportunities to improve revenue profit performance (KPIs, continuous improvement programs)

  • Experience in a beverage import and logistics business with an annual turnover exceeding USD$50mm
  • Strong managerial, leadership, and interpersonal skills to enable business development
  • A strong leader who is able to think strategically, analytically, and creatively, and become a key member of the senior management team
  • Ability to understand commercial drivers and exercise sound judgment in 3rd party negotiations
  • Team player who is able to create and maintain long-term business relationships with clients and other members of the team
  • Determined yet not overbearing or divisive; ability to diplomatically yet firmly push back or hold onto and defend positions
  • Ability to solve complex problems and exercise quick judgment to reach effective solutions
  • Experience working across countries and a good understanding of multicultural nuances
  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience, with at least 3+ years in a divisional leadership position
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Other languages considered an asset
